The Role:

The purpose of the role is to be an integral part of the Dorothy Perkins Management team, responsible for Casual wear creative direction, overseeing the delivery of the range in partnership with the brand product teams and to work within the Design Director and wider Management Team contributing to delivering the Brand strategy, strengthening Dorothy Perkins market position and increasing profit.

Day to Day:

  • Works as an integral part of the Dorothy Perkins management team reporting to the Design Director. Operates as a strategic Design Manager, overseeing the Casualwear design team and their processes, demonstrating best practice at all times
  • Builds effective relationships at all levels to inspire and influence for the best commercial results
  • Demonstrates full ownership and responsibility for the output of the Casualwear Design team at all time

Maximises Design Performance

  • Leads the creative direction of Dorothy Perkins Casualwear within the creative vision of the Design Director
  • Provides strong and consistent trend analysis and product direction. Owns the process of range building to include seasonal key looks and ‘must have’ key shapes appropriate for the Dorothy Perkins customer
  • Works closely with Design Director, Buying Director, B&M, HOBs to generate and communicate seasonal key looks and product direction
  • Displays an in-depth, customer-focused knowledge of the competitive market and trends
  • Ability to shop internationally to generate product within specific Brand parameters
  • Contributes to the successful management of product-focused key events such Press Days and Design presentations
  • Regularly reviews processes within Design to continually drive improvements and ensure maximum efficiency and high performance

Develops a High Performing Team

  • Motivates and develops the in-house Casualwear design team; will have a good track record of leading and working within a high performing Design and Buying team
  • Provides positive leadership and support to the Casualwear team
  • Supports the brand strategy and encourages others to do so
  • Pre-empts the need for, and manages change, supporting teams throughout the process.
  • Builds a strong team with a focus on succession planning
  • Deals with people issues promptly and appropriately

Communicates Effectively

  • Able to drive and influence effective communication between Design and all other brand functions to ensure key messages are communicated across the business
  • Builds and maintains a strong, varied network of contacts and communicates with all to achieve positive outcomes

  • Excellent creative talent with the ability to accurately interpret future trends, themes, colours and shapes
  • Combines a creative, innovative skill set with a strong commercial awareness
  • Self-starter with the ability to work under minimal supervision and guidance
  • Strong team player and people manager - able to gain trust, respect and confidence quickly and effectively
  • The proven ability to drive performance of external as well as internal teams
  • Enthusiasm, energy and determination to achieve results
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – being able to quickly establish effective relationships at all levels (internal and external) with gravitas and strength
  • Strong and convincing presentation skills – able to get ideas across effectively and gain relevant support
  • Strong facilitation skills – able to lead a team creatively
  • Works within budget guidelines at all times
